definition | A study of the watercolor techniques, pigments and compositions of Sargent primarily by observing his works. |
editorialNote | This is a placeholder for this study which is created in g-keep notes and tagged here. |
example | The tagged work, 'Tomato' was created at a time of intense consideration of Sargent's watercolors. In particular, the watercolor 'Gourds', though not an inspiration for Tomato, was an influence with it's palette and use of light. The gourds have small direct sunlight reflections, little geometric shapes of exposed underpainting with surrounding ultramarine shifting that underpainting into the cool range for the shaded skin of the gourd. The tomato in the work could not reflect sunlight in the same way, but the smudge of ultramarine in the very front signals the opposite of direct sun, and feels somehow in keeping with Sargent's treatment of hanging fruit. |
